Water Damage Drywall Repair in Fishtown & Philadelphia

Cutting out wet, stained or crumbling drywall and plaster after a leak, letting the area dry, replacing it and finishing it to match, once the leak itself has been fixed.

Moldy, water-damaged drywall cut out of a wall during leak repair

What we handle

  • Removing stained, soft or sagging board
  • Checking framing and insulation behind it
  • Replacing and finishing the damaged section
  • Stain-blocking primer and paint
  • Ceiling and wall water-damage repair

Fix the leak first, then the wall

Water-damaged drywall should only be repaired after the source is stopped and the area has dried. Otherwise the stain comes back and mold can grow behind the new surface. We can do both: find and fix the leak, then repair the drywall or plaster.

Signs the drywall needs to come out

  • Soft or spongy spots when pressed
  • Bubbling paint or peeling tape
  • Sagging ceiling sections
  • Brown rings or spreading stains
  • A musty smell

Common water sources in Philly homes

  • Bathrooms above: tub, shower and toilet seals
  • Flat-roof leaks on the top floor
  • Party-wall leaks from the house next door or shared flashing
  • Supply lines to sinks, washers and dishwashers

FAQ

Can I just paint over a water stain?

Only if the leak is fixed, the material is dry and sound, and a stain-blocking primer is used. Soft or crumbling material should be replaced.

Will you fix the leak too?

Yes. We find and repair the source before repairing the drywall.
