Drywall repair for Philadelphia homes

Most Philadelphia homes have some mix of original plaster and newer drywall, usually because rooms were patched or renovated over the decades. A good repair has to match whichever material is there and blend in with the surface around it so it disappears under paint.

Repairs we handle

  • Small holes and dents: doorknob holes, anchors, nail pops and screw pops.
  • Large holes: cut back to framing, new board, tape and finish.
  • Cracks: along seams, corners and above door and window openings, often from normal settling in older rowhomes.
  • Ceiling repairs: sagging, cracked or water-stained ceilings.
  • Corner bead and trim edges: dented or cracked outside corners.
  • Texture matching and skim coating: so patches don't show.

Repair, or replace?

Patching makes sense when the damage is limited and the surrounding wall is sound. If the board is soft, crumbling, moldy or widely water-stained, or plaster has pulled away from the lath, replacing the section is usually the better fix. See drywall replacement & installation and water damage drywall repair.

How a typical repair goes

  1. Look at the damage and find the cause, especially any moisture.
  2. Cut out damaged material and add backing where needed.
  3. Patch, tape and apply several coats of compound.
  4. Sand, match the texture and prime.
  5. Paint, if you want it included (painting).

FAQ

Can you match the texture on my wall?

Yes. We match smooth, skim-coated and textured finishes so the patch blends in after paint.

Do you repair plaster too?

Yes. Many Philadelphia homes still have plaster, and we repair it or transition it to drywall where that makes more sense.

Should I paint right after a drywall repair?

The repair needs to be fully dry and primed first. We can include priming and painting.
